Providing support to the disabled individuals is of utmost significance and a person gets a lot of blessings when one does something like this. Helping disabled so that they can live their life in a normal way is the greatest deed. In two ways, support can be given through the NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme). First is STA also known as Short Term Accommodation, another one is SIL which is known as Supported Independent Living. Let us discuss these two one by one.
STA (Short Term Accommodation)
Short term means for less time period; therefore, it is the support that is provided on a temporary basis. It is quite beneficial as if the caregivers are occupied with some urgent work, then in that case support can be provided through this scheme to ensure that the caregivers do not have to worry about the participants. They get the best care even in the absence of their loved ones.
Features of this scheme:
- It is temporary in nature, as the support is provided for a maximum of 28 days in a year.
- The support that is provided under this scheme covers accommodation, personal care, meals and if required then engaging activities.
- You also have flexible options, like you can get support in shared living space or privately, it all depends on you.
Benefits:
- Caregivers get a chance to rest and rejuvenate themselves, which is extremely important.
- Participants can build a social connection by interacting with someone else.
SIL (Supported Independent Living)
This is a permanent support that is provided to individuals and the main focus here is to make the participants independent. It is rendered to those who require proper support, who even need the support while doing daily tasks. It is the complete support to make the life of disabled convenient.
Features of this scheme:
- Under this scheme, the main focus is on making the person independent.
- It is a full support as support related to cleaning the dishes, cooking, and even basic things is provided on a permanent basis.
- Most of the time, it is done in terms of shared accommodation. In other words, there are more people with the participants who live together.
Benefits:
- Under this, a person is able to socialise as they are with others. As all live together, they talk with each other, and by this a person feels connected and it is extremely good for their mental health.
- A person becomes slowly independent which is the best part of this scheme as it is quite imperative to be self-dependent in this contemporary era.
- Support is given by taking into account the needs of the participants, so that they get the best service possible.
Based on the aspects; like whether a person wants short term care or long term, or the person wants full regular support or just for sometime; a person makes the decision regarding the support they want.
